Each day, you are presented with dozens of spending decisions. Will you make healthy choices that support your financial goals?
Module Transcript
Welcome to PNC's Financial Literacy Education Center.
As a college student, you already know that college can be a demanding experience. From maintaining your grades to making new friends, each day presents its own challenges. But for many students, college also presents a very real financial challenge. In fact, attending college is one of the single largest expenses most adults will ever have.
If you receive financial aid, you know that the amount of aid your receive is often determined by factors you can't control, like your parents' income, the cost of your school, and how each school calculates financial need. But once you arrive on campus, you're in total control of your spending decisions, perhaps for the first time.
Unfortunately, college is often a time when students get into financial trouble - not just from the cost of attending school, but from the same problems that plague all adults: overspending, the misuse of credit, and making uninformed financial decisions. Helping you develop your own plan for successfully navigating the financial challenges of college is one of the main goals of this program.
Some students think they don't need to learn about managing money because they have so little, or that they can wait until after graduation to do so. Nothing could be further from the truth. One of the challenges you'll face in college is not spending the money you do have, but spending borrowed money, and ending college with thousands of dollars of unnecessary student loan and credit card debt.
We hope this program will help you find a balance that's right for you between work and study, spending now and repaying later. This program is about more than just the facts; it's designed to help you understand your own financial decisions and how they can either help or hinder your ability to reach your personal goals. And if you sign up to take this program as a course, you will think about short and long-term financial goals, get personalized feedback on your financial behaviors, assess your risk of identity theft, and create a monthly spending plan that you can reference on an ongoing basis.
We hope you enjoy your course and learn everything you can from PNC's Financial Literacy Education Center!
